ABOUT

Mamayani is a role-playing game that features the Philippine heroines during the American and Japanese occupations.

You can experience what it was like for these heroines when they fought for the country. You can create, control, and customize the main character!

There are a lot of choices and scenes you can explore, but be careful. The choices you make will affect the ending you'll get!

The Game

The History

When the Americans came with new education opportunities, women rebelled through literature and the arts, and they even rose to fight for their rights in political activities!

But when the Japanese came with war, besides being in the military troops, women also became in charge of educating the masses through cultural presentations and publications which were very vital in connecting the movements and the masses!

The Advocacy

Try opening your textbook to the chapters that talk about the American and Japanese occupation in the Philippines. How many heroines can you find? When we tried this, we found only about two or three. So where are they?

That's what the team behind Mamayani is fighting for. Mamayani is a project made to bring the heroines to the spotlight of history education along with the heroes we know.

This is based on a contructivist approach to learning gendered history in textbooks proposed by Jane Turner (1998). It features the heroic stories of Philippine heroines, and through Mamayani, students, especially young girls, can give more meaning to history and their own heroism by experiencing through a contextualised, narrative-driven, and immersive platform!
